The Basotho have a strong traditional culture and this is seen in the colourful celebrations that mark important milestones such as at child birth, puberty and initiation for the boys and girls becoming men and women, marriage and indeed death. Visitors will see these events in most villages and towns throughout the country with the more lavish in the major centres.
Music is central to these events and to the Basothos and is heard throughout the country, from the villages and highlands where traditional instruments are the norm, to the Towns and major centres where the instruments are more modern. These traditional instruments include the Setolo-tolo, the Lekolulo, and the Thomo.
